Poughkeepsie - Robert W. "Bob" Rieger, 81, a resident of Poughkeepsie, died peacefully on Friday, January 31, 2014, at Vassar Brothers Medical Center.

He was born September 20, 1932 in Yonkers, New York, the son of the late Frederick and Philine Rieger.

Bob married the former Josephine M. Defemio in Yonkers, New York, on July 19, 1953, and they recently celebrated their 60th Wedding Anniversary.

Bob was predeceased by his brother Frederick, sister Florence and brother-in-law Louis Barone Sr. He is survived by wife Josephine, sister-in-laws Dianne (Joseph) DaRonco, Annette Barone and Lois (Frank) DeMartino as well as five nephews, Louis, Robert and Anthony Barone, Frank DeMartino and Joseph DaRonco, a niece, Michele Messick and seven grand nieces and nephews.

Bob was a carpenter for Arlington Specialties for many years, retiring in 1997 and was also member of Carpenters Local 279. Bob was a Charter member, for 34 years, of the Elks Lodge # 2609 in Wappingers Falls.

Bob was a Veteran of the US Navy, serving aboard the aircraft carrier USS Tarawa for four years.

Calling hours will be held on Tuesday February 4th from 2-4 and 7-9pm at the Michael Torsone Memorial Funeral Home, Inc. 220 Mill St. Poughkeepsie, NY 12601. Wheelchair entrance is located in the rear of funeral home on Vassar St.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday February 5th 10:00am at St. Martin dePorres Church, Cedar Valley Rd. in Poughkeepsie.

Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery in Poughkeepsie.
