Roland Albert DuSault

POUGHKEEPSIE - Roland Albert DuSault passed away peacefully on October 23, 2013 at Vassar Brothers Medical Center in Poughkeepsie, NY. Roland "Red" DuSault was born October 6, 1926 in Albany, New York, the son of Elena Nolet and Albert DuSault. Together with his parents and sister Agnes, Roland lived in various locations throughout the United States during his childhood. On their return to the East coast in 1930, the family settled in Beacon, New York. There he attended St. Joachim's Elementary School and then Beacon High School -- until World War II intervened. At age 17 he enlisted in the United States Navy, and served aboard destroyer USS J. William Ditter as Fire Controlman engaged as range finder and spotter. In 1945 he was a recipient of the Navy Unit Commendation Ribbon for outstanding heroism in action during operations for the seizure of enemy-held Okinawa. He was also awarded: American Theatre Medal, Asiatic Pacific Medal-1 star, and Victory Medal. Following the war, he attended Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, graduating with a Bachelor Management Engineering degree in 1951. Upon his graduation, he began his 36 year career with I.B.M. as an Industrial Engineer, retiring in 1987 as Chief of Staff to the Vice President, Corporate Headquarters, Poughkeepsie. Roland leaves behind his beloved wife of 55 years, Katherine (nee Britt), and their children ("outstanding" he'd say of them): Matthew, Chris, Gregory, Marie, Jackie, and Nancy (Anne); sons-in-law: Christopher and Michael; grandchildren: Conor, Brett, Andre and Remy, with whom he was always "delighted." He is also survived by his sister Agnes' children and the whole McCormack clan in California, along with the Haley cousins in Lawrence, Mass, and nephew Jerry Morin and his family in Georgia. A funeral mass will be held 10 a.m. Monday, October 28, 2013, at Holy Trinity Church 775 Main St. in Poughkeepsie, NY.
