Ruth E. Gordon
Amenia - Ruth Estella Gordon, 90, a fifty year resident of Amenia, NY died on Friday, January 18, 2013 at Noble Horizons in Salisbury, CT. Mrs. Gordon was a housekeeping supervisor at the Wassaic Developmental Center for fourteen years and a bus monitor for Webutuck Central Schools for fifteen years, where she was affectionately known as "Grandma".
Born October 31, 1922 in Portsmouth, VA she was the daughter of the late James and Hattie (Speller) Moore. Mrs. Gordon was a graduate of W. S. Etheridge High School, Windsor, NC, class of 1940. On April 23, 1941 at the Northeast Baptist Church in Millerton, NY she married Lewis E. Gordon. Mr. Gordon died in 1973. Mrs. Gordon was a member of the Excelsior Chapter #72, Mary Court #11, Past Matron of Gertrude Reed #20 of Torrington, CT Order of the Eastern Star, Amenia Grange #698, CSEA Local #426, a life member of V.F.W
. Ladies Auxiliary Post #5444 of Dover Plains and a life member of the Amenia Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary.
Mrs. Gordon is survived by her three sons, Lewis E. Gordon, James Gordon and Owen F. Gordon; seven grandchildren, six great grandchildren, several cousins and many friends.
Calling hours will be held on Saturday January 26, 2013 from 9-11 a.m. at the Scott D. Conklin Funeral Home, 37 Park Avenue, Millerton, NY 12546. The Order of the Eastern Star will conduct services at 10:30 a.m. followed by the Amenia Ladies Auxiliary. Funeral services will take place at 11 a.m. at the funeral home with the Reverend Carol Miller officiating. Burial will take place in the family plot at Salisbury Cemetery, Under Mountain Road, Salisbury, CT.
