MILLBROOK - Stafford Goddard, 85 of Millbrook, died on Monday, March 4, 2013 at his residence surrounded by his loving family. Born on December 27, 1927 in Wiesbaden, Germany, he was the son of Edward Brett Goddard and Anna Elizabeth Thiel. He immigrated to America with his family as a young child where he grew up in Millbrook, NY in the 1930s and 1940s. Stafford attended Millbrook High School until enlistment in the US Navy where he was honorably discharged 1949. In the 1950s Stafford was the owner/proprietor of the Esso gas station located on Franklin Avenue in Millbrook until 1958. From January 1958 until his retirement in 2004 he owned and operated Goddard's Service Station in Pleasant Valley, NY. Stafford was known by his loyal customers for his willingness to help them during times of need.

Stafford is survived by his spouse of 61 years, Doris Perrotta Goddard; two sons, Dean, David and his wife Karla, and granddaughter Anna Elizabeth Russell and husband Nicholas of Richmond Virginia. Stafford is survived by his sister Virginia Goddard Wise of Massachusetts; his nephew Herbert Goddard and wife Bridget of Rhinebeck; nephew Donald Goddard of Poughkeepsie; his niece Elizabeth Hickley of Poughkeepsie; and several nieces in Texas and New Jersey. Stafford is predeceased by his brother Herbert Goddard, Sr. in 1995. Private memorial services will be at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Hospice of Dutchess County or Dutchess County SPCA.
