Thomas J. Gannon Sr.
Poughkeepsie - Thomas J. Gannon Sr. was surrounded by his loving family when he passed away peacefully on September 30, 2013 after a brief illness. Tom was born on October 23, 1940 in Sharon, CT to Anne Morrison Gannon and Francis P. Gannon Sr. He was predeceased by both of his parents, his two brothers, Francis P. Gannon Jr. and Gerald W. Gannon. Tom is survived by his beloved companion, Lynn Simmons; his four children, Thomas J. Gannon Jr. and his wife Cynthia of Hyde Park, NY; Patrick J. Gannon and his wife Wendy of Poughkeepsie, NY; Lecia C. Gannon of Marlboro, NY; and Dr. Kristi M. Gannon of Waldwick, NJ, his grandchildren Christian Gannon, Alecia Gannon; Leda Gannon, Kaylee Gannon; Brandon Gannon and his wife Melissa, Devon Azcuy. He is also survived by many cherished nieces and nephews, his special niece Katie Soricelli, and Lynn's grandchildren, Emma, Rome and Titan Simmons.
Tom was a parishioner of St. Peter's Church. He attended Nativity Grade School, St. Patrick's High School, then graduated in 1958 from Poughkeepsie High School and attended Dutchess Community College. Early in his career he worked at DeLaval Separator Co., Fuller Brush Co., Metropolitan Life, and Bemco Bedding in Binghamton, NY. In 1971, Tom was hired as a City of Poughkeepsie firefighter
and served as a contract negotiator for the Local 596 before retiring as Captain in 1991. Tom began his career of over 40 years in real estate with Carl Turner Associates. He was the Principal Broker of Tom Gannon and Associates, and was later an Associate Broker with W.J. Lavery and currently Houlihan Lawrence. Tom had a passion for real estate, the stock market, fishing, traveling, shooting craps, watching the Yankees, playing cards with his friends and sharing a good laugh. Tom will always be remembered for his quick wit and humor. He was an avid member of the George Reid Poker Club. He was a life member of the Dutchess County Sportsmen's Association, coached Little League Baseball from 1970 to 1990. He was Past President of Mid Hudson Addiction Recovery Centers, Inc. and continued to actively serve on the board until his death. Tom was of service to many friends of Bill W. and his presence will be sorely missed.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Saturday, October 5, 2013 at 10am at Our Lady of the Rosary with Rev James Garisto officiating. Burial to follow at St. Peter's Cemetery, Poughkeepsie, NY.
