SALT POINT - Thomas R. Petronella, of Salt Point, died at his residence on Tuesday, February 12, 2013 after an illness. He was born in Poughkeepsie, the son of Thomas and Mary Smith Petronella and attended St. Mary's Elementary School. He graduated from Arlington High School where he lettered in football. Also during his high school years he played clarinet with the Dutchess Philharmonic and saxophone with some local bands. He dreamed of Julliard but instead went to Siena College, becoming a loyal fan of the Saints. He served in the US Army at Fort Monroe, Virginia and received an MBA from New York University.

Tom enjoyed a career in marketing, being lucky, in his words, to have lived in 4 great cities: New York, Boston( think Celtics and proximity to Vermont ski slopes), Chicago, and Washington, DC(Redskins), where he married the former Marie Elizabeth O'Malley at Holy Trinity Church, Georgetown.

He retired as senior account executive from Clark Boardman/Callaghan & Co., a division of Thompson Publishing Group. Tom was a parishioner of St. Stanislaus Church, and a former member of Pleasant Valley Lions Club.

One of his greatest pleasures was sharing a love of sports with his sons; coaching their basketball and Little League teams, taking them to Cooperstown and Yankee Stadium, and the Siena -Marist games; and spending countless hours in front of the tube analyzing plays. He had an encyclopedic knowledge of sports trivia and stats.

In addition to his wife Mariel, Tom is survived by his sons; Tom of Rhinecliff, Jim and his wife Leslie and their son Oliver of Long Beach,CA., and John and his wife Erin and their young sons John and Shay of Poughkeepsie; his sister Florence Molella of Madison,CT and her sons and his nephews Paul, Tom, David, and Andrew.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Saturday, February 16 at 11 am from St. Stanislaus Church, Main St., Pleasant Valley. Inurnment will be in Poughkeepsie Rural Cemetery later in the spring.

Tom's family is grateful to Dr. Michael J. Maresca and the staff at Hudson Valley Hematology and Oncology, and to St. Francis Hospital Home Healthcare Services. Arrangements are under the direction of the Allen Funeral Home, 1605 Main St., Pleasant Valley, NY 12569
