Vincent "Jim" Fredericks

Beacon - Vincent "Jim" Fredericks passed away peacefully on July 22, 2014 at St. Luke's Cornwall Hospital, Newburgh. He was 89.

Born in Beacon on June 3, 1925 Jim was the son of the late Patrick A. and Lillian Pennacchio Fredericks. Jim was a decorated Navy veteran, serving during World War II in the Normandy Invasion and also in the Pacific Theatre. In his youth, he was active in the Golden Gloves and later started 5 Star Boxing Club. Jim was the former Mayor of the City of Beacon and former Police Commissioner in Beacon. He was a founder of Diamond Construction Company. Jim retired from the Beacon City School District as Superintendent of Building and Grounds. Jim was a parishioner of St. Joachim - St. John the Evangelist Church in Beacon. He was a very active member of the St. Vincent DePaul Society and served as President. He was a Honorary Life Member of the Knights of Columbus Trinity Council #445, a Life Member of VFW Post 666 in Beacon and a member of St. Rocco's Society in Beacon.

Jim is survived by his wife, Fanny Fredericks of Beacon; his daughter, Sandra Pietragallo and her husband, James of Fishkill; his stepchildren, David Papo and his wife, Karen of Beacon and Carol Tittle and her husband, Lou of Walden; his grandchildren, Eric Pietragallo and Brian Pampalone; his step grandchildren, Robert and his wife, Victoria Slinsky, Tricia Culp and her husband, Ron, James Pietragallo and his wife, Kristen and David Papo; his five great grandchildren; his brother, Patrick Fredericks and his wife, Marianne of Beacon; his sister, Joann DiCastro and her husband, Thomas of Beacon; his sister-in-law, Sarah Fredericks of Beacon; beloved uncle of numerous nieces and nephews and many cousins.

Jim was predeceased by his first wife, Jean Marie Mitchell Fredericks; his daughter, Sharon Pampalone and his siblings, Francis Fredericks and Mary Steffensen.

The family will receive their friends on Friday, July 25, 2014 from 4 to 8 p.m. at Halvey Funeral Home, Inc., 24 Willow Street, Beacon. Members of the Knights of Columbus will hold services at 6:30 p.m.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, July 26 at 11 a.m. at St. Joachim Church, 51 Leonard Street, Beacon. Burial with military honors will follow at St. Joachim Cemetery, Beacon.
