Vincent S. Zitz

Rhinebeck - Vincent S Zitz, 90, a lifelong Rhinebeck resident, passed away on Sunday, March 2, 2014 at The Thompson House in Rhinebeck, NY.

A businessman for 40 years, Mr. Zitz was the owner and operator of Vin's Auto Service in Red Hook from the time he started the business in 1960 until his retirement in 2000 when his son Vincent took over.

Mr. Zitz was a lifelong communicant of Good Shepherd Church in Rhinebeck, a past member of the Red Hook Chamber of Commerce, a member of the Red Hook-Rhinebeck Lodge 2022 BPOE, and the Red Hook Businessman's Association.

Born on August 25, 1923, in Rhinebeck, NY, he was the son of the late Jerry P. and Catherine (Cheresna) Zitz, Sr.

Vincent married Joan B. Barlow on Oct. 14, 1950 in St. Mary's Church, Poughkeepsie, NY and Joan survives at home in Rhinebeck.

In addition to his loving wife of 63 years, he is survived by two daughters; Judy (Russell) Grindon of Broadview Heights, OH, and Joanne Samuels of Middleburg, OH, a son; Vincent P. Zitz of Rhinebeck, a brother & sister-in-law; Alfred (Doris) Zitz of Rhinebeck, a sister; Molly (Raymond) VanHavere of Kannapolis, NC, two granddaughters; Carolyn (Thomas) Li of Cleveland, OH, and Jasmin Grindon of Broadview Heights, along with several nieces, nephews and friends.

He was predeceased by three sisters; Margaret App, Katherine DePreter, and Louise Ressler,

and three brothers; Jerry, John, and Stephen Zitz.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 12:00 PM on Saturday, March 8th, 2014 at Church of the Good Shepherd, Rhinebeck, NY. Burial will be at St. Joseph's Cemetery, Rhinecliff.

Friends may call at the Burnett & White Funeral Homes, Rhinebeck on Friday from 2 to 4 pm & 7 to 9 pm.
