BEACON - Viola Fastoso, a longtime Beacon resident, passed away at her home on Wednesday, November 28, 2012. She was 88.
Born in Cold Spring on May 26, 1924 Viola was the daughter of James and Caroline Barone Nastasi. Viola married Louis Fastoso on June 9, 1946. Mr. Fastoso predeceased Viola on January 19, 2010. Viola worked at Sonotone Corp and A & P.
Viola is survived by her daughters, Lisa Gerken of Beacon and Bernadette Pignone and her husband, Tony of Beacon; her son-in-law, Walter Gerken; her grandchildren, Tyler and Ryan Gerken of Beacon, Janine Durant and her husband, Sean of Pine Plains, Thomas Pignone and his wife, Monica of Pennsylvania; her great granddaughter, Talia Durant; her sister, Mildred Colonna of Beacon; her brother, Sylvio Nastasi and his wife, Charlotte of Newburgh; her sisters-in-law, Pat Nastasi, Josephine Maher and Bernice Fastoso; several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband, Viola was predeceased by her siblings, Gloria Nastasi, Julia Ciancio, Rose Ciancio, Nena Kearsey, Anita Nastasi, Val Just, Alfred Nastasi and Salvatore Nastasi.
The family will receive their friends on Friday, November 30, 2012 from 4 to 7 p.m. at Halvey Funeral Home, Inc., 24 Willow Street, Beacon. The funeral service will be held at 6:30 p.m. at the funeral home.
The family would like to thank the Oncology Staff at Vassar Brothers Medical Center and the staff at Hospice of Dutchess County for the care and compassion given to Viola.
