Walter S. Finch

Highland - Walter S. Finch of Highland, NY passed away peacefully on March 22, 2014. He was 84 years old.

He was born on November 17, 1929 to the late Roy E. Finch and Ruth E. (Christiana) Finch in Middletown, NY.

Walter is survived by his wife, Donna M. Buckman Finch. He is also survived by his sister, Wilma M. Hindley and her husband Thomas of Fair Oaks, NY, as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was predeceased by his first wife, Fannie Angie, and his brothers, Willis and Wesley Finch.

Walter served in the Army during the Korean War. After his retirement from IBM as a technician in 1984, he worked for over 25 years at Michael Torsone Memorial Funeral Home, Inc.

Walter was a member of St. Augustine Catholic Church since 1957 where he served as Trustee for 20 years. He was a life member of VFW Post 6534, serving as Quartermaster for 20 years, and he also belonged to American Legion Post 193. He was the attendant of the Highland Health Volunteers Loan Closet for 20 years. Walter and Fannie, were recipients of the St. Cabrini Gold Medal Human Service Award in 1996.

Hours will be 2-4 & 7-9 on Wednesday, March 26, 2014 at the Michael Torsone Memorial Funeral Home, Inc. 38 Main Street, Highland, NY. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, March 27, 2014 10:30am at St. Augustine Roman Catholic Church in Highland. Burial will follow in Lloyd Cemetery with Military Honors.
