Warren F. "Smig" Smeriglio
Wappingers Falls - Warren F. "Smig" Smeriglio, a resident of Wappingers Falls, entered into rest Thursday, November 7, 2013 at St. Francis Hospital in Poughkeepsie. He was 81.
Son of the late Rafael and Katherine Balser Smeriglio, he was born December 20, 1931 in Beacon. He married the former Elizabeth Sabato on February 7, 1953 at St. Andrew's Church in Beacon. Mrs. Smeriglio preceded him in death on October 20, 2009.
Warren proudly served his country in the United States Army
Reserves for 33 years retiring as a Lieutenant Colonel. He was also a roofer at Fishkill Correctional Facility and after retirement went to work on his own. Smig was an avid skier and was a member of the Killer Bee Ski Club where he was known as "BombaBee." He was a boater and named his boat "Linda M" after his daughter. He enjoyed water skiing and scuba diving. He also liked to play racquet ball and tennis. Smig enjoyed old cars and owned a restored '57 Thunderbird. He also enjoyed spending time completing crosswords and word games. He was known to help anyone he thought needed help as well as known for his sense of humor. He will be truly missed by all who knew him.
He is survived by his daughter, Linda Pendleton and her life partner, John Smith of Norfolk, Virginia; his brother, Richard Smeriglio and his wife, Kathleen of Cairo, New York; his grandson, William Pendleton and his partner, John Aiu of Augusta, Georgia; several nieces and nephews; as well as his caregivers, Gail and Sharon.
Family will receive friends on Wednesday, November 13, 2013 from 1 to 5 p.m. at Straub, Catalano & Halvey Funeral Home, 55 East Main Street, Wappingers Falls, NY 12590. A funeral service will be held at 4 p.m. with Mother Deborah Magdalene officiating.
