NASHUA, NH - William "Bill" Edward Triest, 92, of Nashua, formerly of Round Hill Rd., Poughkeepsie, died Saturday, September 28, 2013 at St. Joseph Hospital in Nashua with his children and their spouses by his side. He was the beloved husband and constant companion of the late Patricia (McKeon) Triest with whom he shared 61 happy fun filled years of marriage.
Bill was born on March 13, 1921 in McClure, Pa, the son of the late Frank and Viola (Peters) Triest. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering at Penn State University
in 1942, a Masters in Electrical Engineering at RPI in 1947 and a Masters in Applied Math from Harvard University
in 1962. He enlisted and served in the U.S. Army
, Signal Corps from 1943-1946 and in the U.S. Air Force
from 1946-1947. After working at the National Bureau of Standards from 1947-1951, Bill joined IBM where he worked from 1951 until retirement in 1986.
Bill's true joy in life was his time with his wife Pat. He was extremely family oriented, always patient and kind and actively participated in the lives of his children and grandchildren. Many happy summers were spent with his family at Cape Cod relaxing on the beach and enjoying time together. He was an enthusiastic and loyal fan of the Penn State Nittany Lions Football team and loved watching the games on Saturday afternoons.
Bill is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Pam Triest-Hallahan and husband Bill Hallahan of Nashua; three sons and daughters-in-law, William Triest Jr. and wife Carolyn of Huntington, WV, Bob Triest and his wife Katie of Newton, MA, and Mark Triest and wife Sherry of Medfield, MA; nine grandchildren, Bill of Nashua, Rebecca of WV, William III of OH, Meaghan of KY, Anne of China and Newton, MA, Patrick of Newton, MA, and Michael, Chris, and Matt of Medfield, MA; as well as a special niece, Sandra Folsom of Carver, MA.
Visiting hours were held on Thursday, October 3, 2013 at Davis Funeral Home, One Lock Street in Nashua. A Funeral Mass was celebrated Saturday, October 5, 2013 at the Immaculate Conception Parish, 216 East Dunstable Road, Nashua.
