Melvin William Hoysradt

Millerton - Millerton- Melvin William Hoysradt, 93, a 61 year resident of Millerton, NY died peacefully at Noble Horizons in Salisbury, CT on the evening of May 7, 2014. Mr. Hoysradt worked as a Building Supervisor at Wassaic Development Center in Wassaic, NY for over thirty years, retiring in November of 1976.

Born April 15, 1921 in Ancramdale, NY he was the son of the late Albert and Cora (Ingelson) Hoysradt. Mr. Hoysradt attended school in Ancramdale, NY and served his country honorably in the United States Army Rangers during World War II. He primarily served in the European Theater and received The Bronze Star for meritorious achievement in ground operations. He was honorably discharged in 1946.

On December 29, 1948 in Hudson, NY he married Helen Wassie. Mrs. Hoysradt survives at home.

Mr. Hoysradt was a life member of American Legion Post # 178 of Millerton and The CSEA of New York. He enjoyed farming and helping others. He was an avid hunter and also enjoyed fishing.

In addition to his wife, Mr. Hoysradt is survived by his loving sister in law, Mary Hoysradt of Millerton, NY and a special niece, Marion Leffingwell of Hudson, NY. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews and many friends.

In addition to his parents he was predeceased by two sisters; August Hoysradt and Myrtle Cade and six brothers; Foster, Harmon, Claude, Russell, Lee and James Hoysradt.

Calling hours will be held on Friday (Today), May 9, 2014 from 5-7pm at the Scott D. Conklin Funeral Home, 37 Park Avenue, Millerton, NY 12546. Funeral services will take place on Saturday, May 10, 2014 at 10am at the funeral home. Rev. Zora Cheatham will officiate. Burial will follow at Irondale Cemetery, Millerton, NY.
