HUDSON - Alfred A. Mackay, 69, of Hopewell Junction, died Nov. 12, 2012 at the Firemen's Home in Hudson, NY. Born on May 9, 1943 in Alyesbury, England, he was the son of the late William and Mary Mackay. He received his citizenship on Oct. 20, 1969.
Alfred is survived by his wife, Mary F. (Hogan) Mackay of Hopewell Junction, whom he married on Oct. 26, 1968; three sons, Scot and Donald, both of Hopewell Junction, and Lance Corporal Ian Mackay (fiancee Jeanne Gauthier) of Jacksonville, N.C.; and his grandson Dylan Mackay. Also surviving are his siblings, Iain (Janet) Mackay, Ann (Al) Tarchenski, Avril (Anthony) Paris, and Samuel (Patricia) Freeman, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was predeceased by his brother, William Mackay.
Alfred served in the US Army from 1964 until 1967. He was a member of Teamsters Local 449, a Beekman Town Councilman for 16 years, a life member of the Beekman Fire Company and Rescue Squad, and a former member of the Beekman Lions.
Alfred has been a resident of the Firemen's Home in Hudson. The staff went out of their way to extend compassion and care to his everyday life.
Services will be held at 11 am Friday in the Firemen's Home Chapel.
