Wappingers Falls - Barbara 'Phyllis' Barber, 87, a resident of Wappingers, NY, passed away on September 12, 2013 at Vassar Brothers Medical Center. Born on October 2, 1925 in Margaretville, NY, she was the daughter of Roy Sanford and Fern Teed. Phyllis graduated Margaretville High School in 1943. On February 13, 1947, she married Paul 'Bark' Barber who predeceased her in February of 2012. Phyllis worked at Montgomery Ward and then the U.S Postal Service in Hopewell Junction before retiring in 1978.

A former member of the Hopewell Reformed Church choir, Phyllis was known for her sweet voice and saintly attitude. Phyllis could often be found rolling around in her chair singing to those who would listen. Her last greatest adventure was a cross-country road trip with her belated husband in 1978.

Phyllis is survived by her loving sons Gary and his wife, Gayle, of Egg Harbor Twp, NJ, and Terry, and his wife, Jeanne, and their son, Ryan of Poughkeepsie, NY, a brother Carl (Bud) Sanford and his wife, Peggy, of Marlboro, NY, a sister, Doris Felton, of Loveland, CO, twin sisters Janice McCreary and Jeanette Gwynn of VA, other relatives, and many friends.

Calling hours will be held on Sunday, September 15 from 2pm to 4pm and 7pm to 9pm at the Robert H. Auchmoody Funeral Home, 900 New York Rt. 82, Hopewell Junction NY.

A funeral service on Monday, September 16 at 10:00 am, will be held at the funeral home with Rev. Linda Willey officiating. Interment is immediately following at the Hopewell Dutch Reformed Church Cemetery, 143 Beekman Rd., Hopewell Junction, NY 12533.
