CLINTON CORNERS - Clinton Corners - Betty Lou Kinney passed away peacefully at Vassar Brothers Hospital on Friday, May 18th after a brief illness. She was born Betty Lou Clendennen in Port Jervis, NY on October 23, 1937, the daughter of the late Winfield S. Clendennen and Mildred Deats Clendennen. She graduated from Poughkeepsie High School in 1955.
Betty worked for 21 years for the Town of Clinton as a secretary to three town supervisors and as a deputy clerk to five town clerks. She also served for many years as an election inspector. She retired in 2007. She was formerly an assistant Brownie and Girl Scout Troop leader and a 4-H cooking instructor. She was a life member of the Clinton Historical Society. She enjoyed motorhome camping and crossword puzzles and was an avid fan of the New York Mets. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and mother-in-law.
Betty was predeceased by her husband, Leonard Roswell Kinney on May 18th 2005. She is survived by her daughter Tracy and son-in-law Eric Gartelmann of Clinton Corners, and her daughter Leanne and son-in-law Steven McDowell of Coronado, CA. She was a loving grandmother to her four grandchildren Andrew Gartelmann, Erica Gartelmann, Aidan McDowell and Evan McDowell. She was predeceased by a beloved granddaughter, Gabrielle Gartelmann, on August 19, 1991.
A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, May 29 at 2:00 p.m. at the Clinton Alliance Church in the hamlet of Schultzville, 1192 Centre Road, Rhinebeck, NY. Pastor Tom Hartley will officiate. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to support disabled American veterans through Operation Enduring Care, USO, PO Box 96860, Washington DC 20077.
