Hyde Park - Calvin C. Hoyt, 86, of Hyde Park, passed away Sunday, November 24 at home after a long battle with heart disease.
Calvin was born August 15, 1927 in Sheepshead Bay, Brooklyn, to George Washington and Anna Korth Hoyt. He was joined by ten siblings who all predeceased him.
He proudly served in the United States Navy during World War II.
On March 3, 1949, he married Marie V. Guinot who passed away on January 16, 1965. He was married to Betty Clark on June 24, 1974 in Hyde Park. She passed away on April 10, 2012.
A member of the Teamsters Local 707, he retired and went on to working at the South Hills Mall where he was known as "The Whistler." He was always ready to say hello and make new friends. Calvin was also the mall Santa Claus for a number of years.
He is survived by his children and their families, Calvin F. Hoyt and his wife, Donna, of Riverside CA, George Hoyt of Riverside CA, and Virginia "Ginger" Hoyt of Hyde Park. His daughter Dina Dondero predeceased him on November 14, 2011.
Calvin was Grandpa to Jonathan Monahan and his wife, Cassandra, of Putnam Valley; Dennis Monahan Jr. and his fiancée, Juliana Moore, of Plattekill; Melissa Gesmundo and her husband, Anthony; Anthony Place and his wife, Christine; Mathew Place and wife, Melissa, of Kingston; Nick Dondero of Kingston, Tiffany and Amanda Hoyt of Virginia Beach; Tyler Hoyt of Riverside; Jessica Hoyt of Newburgh, Kristan Hoyt of Walden; and Eli Hoyt of Riverside. He also had 13 great grandchildren who were the light of his life.
The family would like to extend their sincere thanks to all the wonderful Hospice workers, especially, Sylvia Frances, Paula Martinellii, Tim Kapeluck and Tom Schwarz.
In keeping with his wishes, cremation has taken place.
A celebration of Calvin's life will be held at a later date.
Arrangements are under the direction of Sweet's Funeral Home, Inc., Rte. 9, Hyde Park.
