Poughkeepsie, NY - Carolyn M. Jones, 63 a resident of the City of Poughkeepsie, New York passed away peacefully on September 17, 2013 at Vassar Brothers Hospital in Poughkeepsie, New York.
Born in Poughkeepsie NY on February 3, 1950, she was the daughter of the late Elizabeth M. Jones and the late Deacon David C. Jones, Sr. Surviving is her loving family including her step-mother, Ruth E. Jones, her son Richard Jones Sr, 3 grandchildren, Imani E. Jones, Richard Jones, Jr. and Jaden J. Jones and her daughter-in-law, Ovita Williams. Her brothers, David C. Jones, Jr., Namon E. Jones, Sr. and Gerald Henry, sisters, Brenda L. Jackson, Julie A. Ellison, Susie L. Mincey, Evelyn M. Worthy, Denise R. Hector and Ruth A. Jones. Her cousin Deborah M. Williams, her caretaker, Angelique "Angie" Johnson, goddaughters, Tenea' Cherry, Cierra J. Cherry and Sacred I. Shamsidden. Her beloved cousin, Charles "Sonny" Didymus and Aunt, Gwen Dickens. Carolyn is also survived by several nieces and nephews and also several great-nieces and great-nephews.
A graduate of Bennett College with an Associate of Arts Degree in English Literature, and a graduate of Marist College with a Bachelor's Degree in History and Education and obtained her Masters Degree of Advanced studies in Educational Administration at SUNY New Paltz.
Carolyn had been employed by the Poughkeepsie City School District for over 30 years. Formerly an assistant Principal of Poughkeepsie High School for 14 years and Principal of Warring Magnet Academy of Science and Technology.
Calling hours are Monday, September 23, 2013 from 4 to 7 pm at the Timothy P. Doyle Funeral Home, 371 Hooker Avenue, Poughkeepsie New York.
A funeral service will be on Tuesday, September 24, 2013 - viewing from 10-11 am, services begin at 11:00 am at Smith Metropolitan AME Zion Church, 63 Cottage Street, Poughkeepsie, NY 12601. Burial will follow at the Poughkeepsie Rural Cemetery
