POUGHKEEPSIE - Catherine A. Crane expired peacefully at home in the Town of Poughkeepsie in the early evening Saturday, December 29, 2012 surrounded by family. She was born June 21, 1935, the second of six children of James V. Polsenski,M.D. and Marie Murphy in Manhattan,New York City.
She was raised and received a private education in Yonkers, New York and graduated from Father Young Academy in Manhattanville,New York City. She exhibited musical talent and played piano on radio programs at an early age.
She attended Manhattanville College, Vassar College, Bennett College, Marist College and received her B.A. from S.U.N.Y.
On August 21, 1958 in St. Denis RC Church, Yonkers, New York, she married William Grace Crane, who survives at home.
She raised five children, William G. Crane, Jr. D.O., Watertown, New York, Matthew D. Crane, M.B.A, M.F.A, C.P.A., Hoboken, N.J., Genevieve M. Crane, Phoenix, Arizona, Bridget C. Crane, M.P.A., Westminster, Massachusetts, and James F. Crane, who predeceased her. She has twelve grandchildren.
Her older sister Jane Boera predeceased her.She is survived by brother James V. Polsenski, Stratford, New Jersey, sisters Anne McGrath, Southington, Connecticut, Jo-Ann Gisolfi, Hastings, New York and Marie McCormack, Bethesda, Maryland.
She was coordinator of client care in Westchester Developmental Center, Wingdale, N.Y. Then she served as elected Receiver of Taxes of the Town of Poughkeepsie for 16 years. In addition, she acted as a member of the County Committee of the Republican Party for several years and served briefly as Vice Chair Person of the Republican Committee of the Town of Poughkeepsie. She was remarked for her pleasing demeanor accompanied by full adhesion to necessary details.
In addition, she achieved a Certificate as Master Gardener in the Cornell University Cooperative Extension and volunteered at Locust Grove.
The family will receive friends at Parmele, Auchmoody & Schoonmaker Funeral Home, 110 Fulton Avenue, Poughkeepsie 12603 (845-452-0790) on Friday, January 4, 2012 at 2:00 PM through 4:00 PM and 6:00PM through 8:00PM. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Saint Martin De Porres, RC Church, 118 Cedar Valley Road, Poughkeepsie, N.Y. 12603 on Saturday, January 5 at 9:30AM followed by entombment at Poughkeepsie Rural Cemetery, Poughkeepsie, N.Y. 12601.
Memorial donations may be made in Catherine's memory to Vassar College or Locust Grove.
