POUGHKEEPSIE - Charles A. Burchfield, 83, passed away peacefully on January 10, 2013 at Vassar Brothers Medical Center in Poughkeepsie. He was born June 1, 1929 in Buffalo, NY the son of Charles E. and Bertha Kenreich Burchfield. On June 1, 1954 Charles married Violet P. Anton in Chicago, Ill. She survives at home. Charles served in the US Air Force during the Korean War. He was the Director of World Trade at IBM in Poughkeepsie for 33 years until his retirement in 1987. He was the president of the Charles E. Burchfield Foundation. His father was a noted artist and his museum is the Burchfield-Penney Arts Center in Buffalo, NY. Charles enjoyed spending time with his family and traveling all over the world. Along with his wife, he is survived by sons and daughters-in-law James & Laura Burchfield of Fairfax, VT. and Charles A. & Kathy Burchfield of Woodstock, NY; daughter and son-in-law Nancy & Charles Clark of Dana Pt., CA; grandchildren Steve, Tom, Charlie, Dan, Mike, Matthew, Mike & Amy; great grandson Jason and several nieces & nephews. He was predeceased by his daughter Cynthia Burchfield in 2002 and four sisters. Calling hours will be held on Friday, January 18, 2013 from 5:00-7:00pm at Wm. G. Miller & Son Funeral Home, Inc., 371 Hooker Ave., Poughkeepsie, NY 12603. Reverend Deborah Hafner DeWinter will preside over a service at 7:00pm in the funeral home. Burial will take place at a later date in Buffalo, NY. Memorial Donations may be made to the Burch-Penney Arts Center, 1300 Elmwood Ave., Buffalo, NY 14222.
