Poughkeepsie, NY - Charles Samuel Adams, patriarch, made his peaceful transition on Monday, September 17, 2012 to be with the Lord in Glory, at the River Valley Care Center, he was 89 years old. He was born on January 22, 1923 in St. James, Jamaica, West Indies to the late Egbert Adams and Mabel Wright. He received his early education at Mount Carey High School in St. James Jamaica.
Charles had 7 children from previous relationships. He then relocated to Kingston where he met the love of his life Nina.They got married in December of 1947, this union produce 4 children.
He was an ardent worker,he worked with the National Water Company in Jamaica for 27 years. Charles migrated to Poughkeepsie, New York, where he worked as a plumber with the Poughkeepsie Housing Authority for many years. He was an avid story teller, he loved playing dominoes. He enjoyed playing his guitar and singing his favorite song "I Found My Thrill on Blueberry Hill" by Fats Domino.
Charles leaves to cherish his memories, Nina his wife; 11 children: Balvin (JA), Monica (Ja), Glen (NY), Verna (NY) Delroy (NY) Patsey (NY), Janet (Bahamas), Winston (JA), Annmarie (Cal), Dennis (JA) and Kenisia (JA); 31 grandchildren; 35 great grand children and 2 great-great-grandchildren; 3 brothers, Kenneth, Philip and Nowel Wright; sister, Ruthlyn Anderson all of Canada; 3 sisters-in-law, 1 brother-in-law, 2 daughters-in-law, Denise and Emmeline and son-in-law Everton. A host of nieces, nephews, co-workers and friends.
Mr. Adams will lie in repose 10-11am Thursday October 4 at Beulah Baptist Church 92 Catharine Street Poughkeepsie. Services 11am at the church.Reverend Jesse V Bottoms officiating. Interment at Poughkeepsie Rural Cemetery.
