Land O'Lakes Florida - Our mother, Christine Barillaro, 93, passed away on Friday, June 14. Mom was born in Enfield, CT on April 25, 1920, the daughter of the late Pasquale and Theresa (Grippo) Verdiglio. She was a graduate of Enfield High School. As a young woman, she worked as a bookkeeper for her father's business, Verdi Coal in Enfield. On May 7, 1942, she married Joseph Barillaro who predeceased her on May 9, 1995. During WWII Mom and Dad lived in Boston while Dad was serving with the US Coast Guard. In 1951, she and Dad moved to a 35 acre family compound in Meriden, CT where they continued to raise their three children, Stefanie, Mark and Bonnie (known to everyone as Jess). During these years, Mom worked for CUNO, Inc. in the data processing department. In 1955, Dad accepted a position with IBM in Poughkeepsie, Mom's home for the next 58 years. She was employed by Luckey, Platt & Co., and B&B Foods. In the late 50s, she was instrumental in obtaining funding for the new Dutchess Community College. Mom was a wonderful wife, mother, and grandmother whose cooking skills earned her the reputation as "the best restaurant in town!" She was a voracious reader, and instilled a love of books and learning to her children. Mom, we owe you a lot for the guidance you provided and for the wonderful memories that will stay with us forever. As your children, we know how terribly you missed Dad; you're with him, now and forever. Begin the Beguine! Mom is survived by her daughter Stefanie Johnston and her husband, Jim of Land O' Lakes, Florida, daughter Jess and close family friend Aja Bielawski of Boylston, Massachusetts, and her son Mark and his wife Bonnie of Poughkeepsie. She is also survived by her grandsons, Kelly Johnston and his children Sheridan and Tyler of Tampa, Florida; David Barillaro and his wife Andrea' and their son Bruno of LaGrange; and John Barillaro and his wife Maria of Yonkers; her sisters in law Loretta Demanche and Jeanette Mase, both of Meriden, Connecticut; her brother in law Eugene Barillaro and his wife Jan, also of Meriden Connecticut and many nieces and nephews.
