Doris A. Barton

POUGHKEEPSIE - Doris A. Barton, 91- of Poughkeepsie, passed on Saturday February 15th, 2014 at River Valley Care Center. Born on September 15th 1922, she was the daughter of Edward & Ann Gager.

Doris was born and raised in Minneapolis Minnesota, and moved to New York in the 1950's to raise her family. A loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother- Doris has now joined her late husband Lowell Barton, who served in the US Army Air Corp during World War II and worked for the FBI for over 25 years. Doris was an active community member; serving as a volunteer at Vassar Hospital as well as maintaining an active membership with the St. Francis Hospital Auxiliary. Doris was proud of her years of service as a Girl Scout troop leader, her membership with the 50+ club and the local chapter of the Red Hat Women's Club. She also participated in a local bowling league, a sewing club, golfing and volunteered her services at the Nearly New Shop in Poughkeepsie. Doris was an avid animal lover and advocate, donating faithfully to the ASPCA. She also donated to several other charities and organizations including; the Children's Home of Poughkeepsie and the Holiday Helping Hand organization. Doris enjoyed writing poetry and expressing her artistic abilities through painting. Survivors include- her brother Jim Gager and his wife Kay Gager of Milwaukee Wisconsin. Her son Robert L. Barton and his wife Kelly K. Barton of Fishkill NY. Her daughter Carol M. Howard and her fiancé Jason Johnson of Bradenton FL. Her granddaughter Melissa A. Tarter and her husband Stephane Tarter of Hyde Park NY. Her granddaughter Nicole M. Barton and her three children- Ava, Jeremy and Kaysen of Elmira NY. Her grandson's David Howard of Tampa FL and Ryan Howard of Tampa FL, as well as her lifelong friend MaryAnn Russell of Poughkeepsie, NY.

The family will receive friends at 10:30 am at Poughkeepsie Rural Cemetery Chapel, 342 South Ave, Poughkeepsie, NY on Saturday, February 22nd. A service will be held at 11:00am. Memorial donations may be made to the ASPCA, Children's Home of Poughkeepsie, or Holiday Helping Hands in her honor and memory. Arrangements are under the direction of Wm. G.
