Edna Hommel Obituary
Edna M. Hommel

PLEASANT VALLEY - Edna M. Hommel, a lifelong resident of Pleasant Valley, passed away Monday, March 18, 2013 at Vassar Brothers Medical Center in Poughkeepsie. She was 94 years young.

Edna was born in Pleasant Valley on May 29, 1918 to the late Roy and Estelle Wright. She was raised on their farm and enjoyed many years there with her brother Alton and her sisters Ruth and Doris. She was a graduate of Arlington High School where she was active in athletics. She attended Krissler Business Institute and worked for 32 years as a postal clerk in the Pleasant Valley Post Office. During retirement, she continued to enjoy being active in two golf leagues (McCann and College Hill) and golfing at all the local courses. She loved playing bingo, fishing, gardening, mowing her lawn, bird watching, and attending Stolen Heart concerts.

Edna's Recipe for a Life Well-Lived: Eggs and bacon everyday for breakfast, playing lotto and bingo, enjoying a great meal, driving her car throughout the county, taking an afternoon nap, watching golf and baseball on television, and mostly, spending time with her friends and family, especially her two granddaughters.

She is survived by her daughter, Caroline Dolfi; her two granddaughters, Kelsey and Emmalee Dolfi; her sister, Doris Gass, and brother-in-law Al Gass, of San Antonio, Texas, and their family; her niece Shirley Goniatis and her husband Jim, of Poughkeepsie, and their family; her nephew Richard Wright and his wife Nancy, of Stanley, NY, and their family; and her friends Joe and Steve Murray.

There was something special about Edna. Always young at heart, she was an inspiration to us all. She found a way to positively impact every person she met due to her remarkable personality and her sense of humor. She taught us all how to make the most out of life: have a positive attitude, keep active, love your family, never give up, and never give in.

Services will be private and at the convenience of the family. Cards and condolences would be greatly appreciated and can be sent to Caroline Dolfi at P.O. Box 572, Pleasant Valley, NY, 12569.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Allen Funeral Home, Pleasant Valley.
