Elizabeth "Betty" Cuvilje Francis, 81, of Poughkeepsie, NY, passed away on Monday, December 27, 2010 at St. Francis Hospital.
Born November 22, 1929 in New Bedford, MA, she was the daughter of Oswald Cuvilje and Gertrude Boardley.
After high school, Betty worked for the Cotton Club, was a DJ, model, MC, singer, dancer, and Mrs. Bronx NY. She worked at IBM as a secretary for many years and later in life, became a security officer for Vassar College and retired early this year.
Betty had many hobbies. She was an avid gardener, enjoyed traveling, crocheting and sewing for family and friends. Betty enjoyed helping many people by volunteering at Vassar Warner Home, soup kitchens, and Big Brothers and Big Sisters for several years.
She is survived by her daughter, Adrienne E. Hernandez, of Poughkeepsie, NY; her son, Eric M. Francis, of San Diego, CA; her grandchildren, Omar Perdue, of Poughkeepsie, Rosa Hernandez-Faircloth, and her husband, Munro Faircloth, of Milton, NY, Jerry Hernandez, of Poughkeepsie, and Aisha Francis, of CA; her great-grandchild, Tarinah Faircloth, of Poughkeepsie; several brothers, sisters, cousins, and many friends.
Family and friends are welcome to gather at 10:30 am Friday, December 31, 2010 at the Joseph J. Darrow Sr. Funeral Home, 39 So. Hamilton St., Poughkeepsie, NY 12601 (845)-452-1840 to proceed in procession to Poughkeepsie Rural Cemetery, 342 South Ave., Poughkeepsie, NY for an 11:00 am graveside funeral service. Rev. Blake Rider will be officiating the service.
