POUGHKEEPSIE - Elizabeth Freedman, 88, of Poughkeepsie, NY died Wednesday, May 22, 2013 at the Home & Hospice Care of Providence, Rhode Island from complications of a Glioblastoma. Born in Buffalo, NY on October 15, 1924, she was the daughter of the late Julian and Elizabeth Moody. Elizabeth worked as a receptionist at the Jewish Community Center and previously was the assistant to the Registrar of Dutchess Community College. Her second husband George Freedman predeceased her in 1986. Elizabeth was a member of the Sisterhood of Vassar Temple and was a volunteer for the U.S.O. in Buffalo, NY during WWII. She was passionate about her work for the J.C.C. and especially for her interactions with the children who called her affectionately "Miss Liz". Elizabeth was generous and giving person, a loving mother and grandmother and a consummate baker and chef. She was the light and inspiration and the love of her children's lives. Elizabeth is survived by her children and their spouses; her son Charles Ellicott of Petaluma, CA, son and daughter-in-law Michael and Zhanna Ellicott of Middletown, NY, daughter Wendy Valleau and her Fiancee, Charles Mercier of Milford, CT, daughter and son-in-law Mary Anne Rittenhouse and Michael Baker of Bronxville, NY, son and daughter-in-law Stephen and Martha Ellicott of Barrington, RI and son and daughter-in-law David and Lynn Ellicott of LaGrangeville, NY. Also surviving is Elizabeth's sister Sarah M. Roha of Thomasville, NC, 17 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband who predeceased her, she was also predeceased by 2 brothers and 2 sisters. The funeral service will be held on Friday, May 24, 2013 at 2:00pm at Vassar Temple, 140 Hooker Avenue, Poughkeepsie, NY 12603 with burial to follow at Vassar Temple Cemetery. Shiva will be held on Saturday night and Sunday at the Family residence. Arrangements are under the direction of the William G.
