Virginia Beach, Virginia - EMMETT W. BLAUVELT, 78, passed away on Thursday, March 6, 2014. Emmett, formerly of Poughkeepsie, had been living in Virginia Beach, VA, since 2010. In 1950 he met the love of his life, Dolores Mae Garbarino, and they married on September 20, 1953, in St. Peter's Church in Poughkeepsie. Mrs. Blauvelt passed away on October 27, 2013. Imagine a love so great that you couldn't live without the love of your life…..Emmett and Dolores are together again forever.

Son of the late Anita (Blauvelt) and Allan Smith, he was born in Poughkeepsie on August 26, 1935. Emmett attended Poughkeepsie City Schools and proudly served his country in the United States Navy from 1952 to 1956. He was a member and former Commander of the VFW Post 170 on Violet Avenue, Poughkeepsie and a member of the American Legion, Poughkeepsie. He retired from IBM in 1989 and was employed as a Security Guard by Marist College for several years after his retirement. Emmett loved to spend time with his wife going on vacation to Seaside Heights, Atlantic City and Aruba. He was a loving parent to his children but seemed to find his glory in his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Mr. Blauvelt is survived at home by his daughter, Terri Reid and Jim Odell of Virginia Beach; his daughter Kim Blauvelt and William Stevenson of Poughkeepsie; his son Scott Blauvelt and his wife Mary of Milan; and his daughter Stacey Doscher and her husband Michael of Wallkill; his beloved grandchildren Kristina Bell and her husband Alvin of California; Amy Coley and her husband Elijah of Kansas; Sandra Burns and her husband Edward of Hyde Park; Nichole Doscher of Wallkill; and his "pals", his great grandsons Dai'Quez Bell of California; Jordan Odell of Kansas; and Ayden Cappello of Catskill. He is also survived by his life long best friend, his cousin but really like a sister, Inez Shafer of Hyde Park. He was predeceased by his parents, his brother Clarence and his cherished granddaughter, Jennifer Cappello. Visitation for Dolores and Emmett will be held from 4 to 8 PM on Thursday, March 13th at the Wm. G. Miller & Son F.H. Inc., 371 Hooker Avenue, Poughkeepsie, NY 12603. A Mass of Christian Burial will be Friday 10 AM at Our Lady of The Rosary Chapel of St. Peter's Parish, 299 Hudson View Drive, Poughkeepsie, NY 12601. Fr. James Garisto will officiate.
