Francis Gerard

(Gerry) Hayden

BALTIMORE, MD - Francis Gerard (Gerry) Hayden entered eternal life August 28, 2013 at St. Agnes Hospital, Baltimore, Maryland following a brief illness. He was 68 years old. Son of the late Benjamin S. Hayden, Jr. and M. Carmelita (Andrews) Hayden, he was born on March 13, 1945 in Baltimore Maryland.

He is survived by his brother and sister-in-law, Benjamin S. Hayden, III and Eileen M. Hayden; nephew Philip M. Hayden and wife Carol Leftwich, Alexandria, Virginia; nephew Jonathan S. Hayden, Rego Park, New York and grand-niece McKenna Eileen Hayden, Alexandria.

When he was school age, there were no educational opportunities in his locale, so Gerry began his formal education at the Joseph P. Kennedy, Jr. Memorial, followed by St, Coletta's School, both in Massachusetts. He completed his schooling at Rolling Road School operated by Baltimore County Public Schools.

Gerry was involved in work programs and recreational activities sponsored by ARC-Baltimore. In that setting for over forty years, he was well known, well-traveled and well liked. His favorite activities included Friday night Rec Center, acting in summer camp productions, including one role in a professional production of Bye, Bye Birdie; bowling, trips to the beach and to Poughkeepsie to visit family. One of the highlights of his life was a trip to the shrine at Lourdes, France with two plane-loads of his St. Coletta's classmates and Cardinal Richard Cushing.

In 1986, when it was time to leave his family home, he moved to an ARC-Baltimore residence with two other men and their care givers and resided with them until his death.

A Mass of Christian Burial was offered September 4, 2013 at St. Mark's Church in Catonsville, Maryland followed by burial in Druid Ridge Cemetery, Pikesville, Maryland.

A Memorial Mass will be offered Saturday, September 28, 2013 at 10:00A.M. at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church in Poughkeepsie, NY.
