George R. Fairbairn

Schultzville- George R Fairbairn, 84, a longtime resident of Schultzville, NY, passed away on Tuesday, September 4, 2012 at Northern Dutchess Hospital in Rhinebeck, NY.

Born on December 28, 1927 in New York, NY, he was the son of George and Dorothy Jean (Thomas) Fairbairn.

Mr. Fairbairn honorably served in the United States Navy during WWII.

Mr. Fairbairn worked as a machinist at the former WJZ Gauge and Tool in Hyde Park; and was a founding and life member of the West Clinton Fire Department Station #2. He was a civil war enthusiast, passionate about his gun collection and loved to work in his woodshop.

On June 6, 1956 in Pleasant Plains, he married Helen Lee Gibson. She survives him at home.

In addition to his loving wife Helen Lee, George is survived by four children, Michael Fairbairn of Greenport, NY; Margaret "Peigi" Fairbairn of Central Bridge, NY; David Fairbairn of Red Hook, NY; and Elizabeth Choinsky and her husband Michael of Red Hook, NY; his grandchildren, Michael and Shannon Jones, Jeremy and Samantha Choinsky, and Heather and Justin Fairbairn; two sisters, Dorothy Haden of Schultzville, NY and Marion Davis of Tivoli, NY; as well as several nieces and nephews.

Calling hours will be held from 10 AM to 12 PM on Saturday, September 8, 2012 at the Dapson-Chestney Funeral Home, 51 W. Market St., Rhinebeck, NY. Members of the West Clinton Fire Department Station #2 will conduct services at 11:45 AM.

Funeral services will begin at 12 PM, with Rev. Thomas Hartley of the Clinton Alliance Church officiating.

Interment with military honors will follow in the Schultzville Cemetery.

Memorial donations are requested to the West Clinton Rescue Squad, 219 Hollow Rd., Staatsburg, NY 1258.
