Dover Plains, NY - George T. Taylor, 83, a lifelong resident of Dover Plains, NY died on Thursday, December 13, 2012 at St. Francis Hospital in Hartford, CT. Mr. Taylor owned and operated George M. Taylor and Son, Inc. in Dover Plains, NY since 1947 and also owned and operated Taylor Energy in Broad Brook, CT.
Born on March 10, 1929 in Dover Plains, NY, he was the son of the late George M. and Mildred J. (Barry) Taylor. On May 6, 1950 in Dover Plains, NY, he married Jean C. Ahner who survives at home. Mr. Taylor graduated from Dover High School Class of 1947.
He was a member of the Dover-Wingdale Chamber of Commerce, a life member of the Dover Lions Club and the Pawling Council of the Knights of Columbus. He was also a member of the Aircraft Owners Pilots Association and Hudson Valley Oil Heat Association. Mr. Taylor was an avid collector of antique cars and a member of several antique car associations. He was a parishioner of St. Joseph's Church in Millbrook, NY.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by five sons, Thomas A. Taylor and his wife, Lynn, of Hillsdale, NY, Robert M. Taylor of Annapolis, MD, David J. Taylor and his fiancée, Cathy Hahn, of Newtown, PA, Michael G. Taylor and his wife, Diana, of Monson, MA and Greg J. Taylor and his wife, Beverly, of Lebanon, NH. He is also survived by thirteen grandchildren, Kevin Taylor and his wife, Sara, Daniel Taylor and his wife, Jessica, Zachary Taylor and his wife, Amy, Darius Taylor and his wife, Melissa, and Mark, Ashley, Megan, Brittany, Jonathan, Mathius, Nathaniel, Colleen and Ryan Taylor.
He is also survived by four great-grandchildren, Lincoln, Jaxon, Blake, and Abigail Taylor. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by a brother, Walter W. Taylor, a sister, Lyda Palmer and a great-grandson, Jonah Taylor.
Calling hours will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. on Sunday, December 16, 2012 at the Hufcut Funeral Home, 3159 Route 22, Dover Plains, NY. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, December 17, 2012 at St. Joseph's Church, 15 North Avenue, Millbrook, NY. Burial will follow at St. Charles Cemetery in Dover Plains, NY.
