STONE RIDGE - Harold Ross O'Sullivan of Stone Ridge, NY died Tuesday October 9, 2012. He was 86 years old.

Mr. O'Sullivan was born in Brooklyn May 15, 1926 a son of the late Harold Aloysius and Helen Margaret Ross O'Sullivan. He and his family moved to Stewart Manor, NY when he was a boy, where he joined the Boy Scouts of America and attained the rank of Eagle Scout. Mr. O'Sullivan attended Regis High School in Manhattan. Upon his graduation in 1944, he enlisted in the US Army Air Corp and served in the South Pacific Theatre during WW II. He took part in the Battle of Manila in the Philippines and was later stationed in Australia and New Caledonia as a high speed radio operator until the end of the war.

Mr. O'Sullivan graduated from New York University with a degree in Business Administration. He received a Masters Degree from Hofstra University and he completed all but his dissertation toward a Doctoral Degree at St. Johns University. Mr. O'Sullivan chose to become an educator and he began his career as an English teacher in Garden City, NY. Within a few years he was promoted to assistant principal at the junior high school and then at Garden City High School. In 1964 he became the high school principal in Mahopac, NY and shortly thereafter he was asked to be the Superintendent of Schools for the Mahopac School District. In 1978, he began a sixteen year tenure with the Rondout Valley School District in Accord, NY. He served as the Rondout Valley School Business Administrator for one year and as Superintendent of Schools for fifteen years. Mr. O'Sullivan retired in 1994 with thirty-eight years of service in the field of education. He was a member of St. Peter's Church in Rosendale where he had served as a lector and a member of the parish council.

Mr. O'Sullivan was an avid fan of the New York Giants. He maintained stadium seats and attended numerous Super Bowl games over a forty year period.

Mr. O'Sullivan was predeceased by his first wife, Doris Elaine Green O'Sullivan in 1993 and his second wife Mary Hoffman O'Sullivan in 2004 and a brother, Vincent O'Sullivan.

He is survived by three children, Kevin Thomas O'Sullivan of Old Lyme, CT; Margaret Susan Burpee of Kingston, NY, and Peter Ross O'Sullivan of Kerhonkson, NY. During his life he was blessed with eleven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. He will be remembered dearly by family and friends as an educator, husband, father, and grandfather.

His funeral will be 9:30 AM Saturday October 13, 2012 from the George J. Moylan Funeral Home Inc., 2053 Route 32, Rosendale. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered 10 AM at St. Peter's Church, Rosendale, NY. Monsignor James Cox will officiate. Interment will be with military honors by Rosendale - Tillson Post 1219 American Legion at Fairview Cemetery, Stone Ridge.
