Harry E. Haight

PLEASANT VALLEY - Harry E Haight, 82 a lifelong resident of Pleasant Valley passed away at Vassar Brothers Medical Center on July 29, 2012

Harry was born in Poughkeepsie, New York on July 17, 1930. He was the son of Harry and Florence (Foote) Haight. On October 21, 1951 in Everett, Massachusetts he married Hazel Foley. Hazel predeceased him on March 13, 2002.

Harry graduated from Arlington High School, Poughkeepsie in June of 1948. Harry was a proud veteran of the U.S. Navy, having served during the Korean Conflict. Harry was a life member of the Pleasant Valley Volunteer Fire Company #1, having served as Treasurer and a Trustee for many years. Harry was elected as a Fire Commissioner of Pleasant Valley Fire District and served for twenty-five years, during which he served as Chairman of the Board for a number of years. He was a member of the American Legion Post 1302, Poughkeepsie. He also was a member of the Dutchess County Association Chiefs of Police.

Harry was employed by the Grand Union Company as a butcher as well as Dairylea serving as a home route delivery driver. Harry was also employed by the Town of Pleasant Valley serving as a Sergeant of the Police force, and then by the Village of Millbrook as the Officer in Charge of the Police Department and as a Court Officer.

Harry is survived by his four daughters - Jayne (John) Murphy, Pleasant Valley, Susan (Larry Doyle) of Amenia, Barbara, Hyde Park and Robin, Pleasant Valley. His four grandchildren Jennifer (Ray) Broas, Debra (Steven) Tuttle, Thomas (Sarah) Murphy, and Andrew Murphy, Pleasant Valley. Four great grandchildren, Jaime Galanos, Emma Broas, Bradley and Benjamin Tuttle. Harry is also survived by brothers, Robert, Donald, Richard and Gerald and sisters Zola Wilber, Jean Liefer and Ann Bull, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents and wife, Harry was predeceased by a son Richard and a sister Shirley Roger.

The family would like to thank Drs. Shah Zaman and Yuk-Wah Chan and their staffs for the excellent care and compassion they provided to our father.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday August 1st from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 at the Allen Funeral Home, 1605 Main Street, Pleasant Valley. Funeral services will be held on Thursday August 2nd at 10:30 a.m. at the Pleasant Plains Presbyterian Church, 2 Fiddlers Bridge Road, Staatsburg. Burial at Crum Elbow Cemetery, 490 North Quaker Lane, Hyde Park will follow immediately after the Church service.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations in Harry's memory be made to the Pleasant Valley Fire Department, Post Office Box 133, Pleasant Valley,NY12569.
