Jack Keresey

STANFORDVILLE - Jack Keresey, 90 of Canaan,CT and formerly of Stanfordville and Larchmont,NY died Thursday, August 15, 2013 at Geer Nursing Home in Canaan,Ct.

Born in Larchmont on November 9, 1922 , he was the son of the late William and Tada Ortiz Keresey.

Jack served his country during WW-II with the US Navy from 1942-1946 having served in both the Atlantic and Pacific Theaters, including 2 months as part of the occupying force in Japan. He was married to Ollie Mae Trentlemen who predeceased him in 1992.

Jack began his career in law enforcement when he was appointed a police officer in Larchmont,NY in May of 1946. He worked his way up through the ranks and became Acting Police Chief and retired after 30 years in 1976. He was the recipient of several departmental awards and 2 Westchester County Macy Newspapers Awards, one for the apprehension of safe burglars and the other for the fatal shooting and apprehension of Niles Tvedt, wanted for the murder of a Scarsdale Police Officer. He was bestowed a lifetime membership in the International Chiefs of Police Association.

Jack is survived by his step daughter Anga Lee Nielsen and her husband Larry of Stanfordville,NY; grandchildren, Redmond Nielsen of Germany and Vivian Nielsen Walsh and her husband Kevin of Pine Plains,NY; great grandchildren, Kyle and Paige; nephew, retired Larchmont Police Chief William J. Keresey III and his wife Gloria of Hickory,NC; and 2 grand nephews, Todd of White Plains,NY and Keith of Rye Brook,NY.

In addition to his wife and parents, he was predeceased by his brother, William J. Keresey Jr. in 1961.

Visitation will be Wednesday, August 21 from 7-9 pm at Allen Funeral Home, 3270 Franklin Ave., Millbrook. Funeral services will be held during the visitation at 7:30 pm. Entombment will be on Thursday , August 22 at 11 am in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Hawthorne,NY.
