Janet R. Hardinge Baker

Pleasant Valley - Janet R. Hardinge Baker of Pleasant Valley NY was surrounded by the love of her family as she peacefully passed into eternal life on December 2, 2013 at Vassar Brothers Hospital.

Born in Poughkeepsie NY on June 7, 1930, she was the youngest daughter to Alfred E. and Ruth V. Mattern Hardinge. She married Floyd O. Baker on June 9, 1951 and they raised their two sons in the home they built together in Pleasant Valley.

She was a graduate of Poughkeepsie High School and attended Dutchess Community College and The State University of New York at New Paltz. She devoted the greater part of her professional career to teaching the disabled at Dutchess County BOCES. She loved to cook for her family and was an avid seamstress always making clothing and creating costumes for the youth in her life. She was also a book enthusiast and enjoyed tending to her rose garden.

She is predeceased by parents and her sisters Alice A. Baumann, Elizabeth B. Hardinge and Doris E. Swartz.

She is survived by her Husband Floyd O. Baker and their sons William L. Baker and his wife Maryann and James M. Baker and his wife Robin, who reside in Pleasant Valley, a sister Grace H. Ward-Kuiper, her niece Elizabeth M. Ward and her son Grayson J. Ward, eight grandchildren: Christina M. and her wife Carol Lowe of Los Angeles, CA; Michele L. Cussano of Middletown, Derrick Cussano of Pleasant Valley; Jennifer A. and her husband Anthony J. Manzi of Pleasant Valley; Rebeca A. and her wife Amanda K. Nolan of Rosendale; Sarah R. Baker of Poughkeepsie; Danielle A Baker, Matthew J. Baker and Margaret R. Baker of Pleasant Valley. She is also survived by her four great grandchildren: Dominick and Mackenzie Cussano, and Andrew and Michael Manzi.

Calling hours will be held Wednesday, Dec 4th from 4-7pm at Allen Funeral Home Pleasant Valley. Funeral Services will be held 10 am Thursday, Dec 5th at St. John's Lutheran Church, Wilbur Blvd Poughkeepsie, NY. She will be laid to rest in Crum Elbow Cemetery in Hyde Park NY.
