POUGHKEEPSIE - Jeanne Seta Bird passed away at her home in Poughkeepsie on September 29, 2013, her 81st Birthday, following a two and a half year battle with advanced Sarcoma. She is survived by her cherished family: her four loving children, Karen, Rick, Linda, and Kristen, their spouses Doug, Galina, Kent, and Allen, her five beautiful grandchildren, Frederick, Jessica, Olivia, Juliana, and Yasmina, Frederick's wife Rachelle, Jeanne's great-grandson Evan, and her loving niece, Kim. Her husband, Richard, Sr. (Dick), died on August 3, 2002, the day before his 72nd birthday. Jeanne (and her children) was deeply grateful to her daughter Karen who lived at home with her during her illness and provided her with excellent care and companionship. Jeanne and Dick spent many years together in Poughkeepsie and enjoyed sharing summers with family and friends at their home in Plymouth, MA. Jeanne, born Eugenie Seta Derderian, daughter of Armenian immigrants Arshag and Hrachoohi, sister of Peter and Alice, was raised in Watertown, MA. Although she most loved her career as mother and homemaker, Jeanne spent two years majoring in English at the University of Rhode Island, taught kindergarten, was a substitute teacher, and retail clerk. Most notably, she was a graceful and competitive tennis player who greatly enjoyed her close community of friends as a member of the Poughkeepsie Tennis Club. There will be a memorial service held for Jeanne at the Unitarian Fellowship of Poughkeepsie, 67 S. Randolph Ave., Poughkeepsie, New York, on October 19, 2013, at 2:00PM. Donations may be made to the Dana Farber Cancer Institute, Boston, MA, the Dyson Center of Poughkeepsie, or Hospice of Dutchess County. Jeanne's care has been entrusted to Vincent Miller of Wm.G. Miller and Son, Funeral Home, Inc., 371 Hooker Avenue, Poughkeepsie, NY 12603. If you wish to send an online condolence please visit our website at www.wmgmillerfuneralhome.com
