CORVALLIS, OR - Jennifer Ruth de-Vries formerly of Wappinger Falls, N.Y. died Sunday, Sept. 16th, at home in Corvallis, Oregon after a year-and-a half battle with lung cancer — she was never a smoker; cancer is just indiscriminate.
She was 43, gentle and sweet until the end, and well-loved by many.
She was the beloved daughter of the late Reuben de-Vries. She is survived by her mother, Margaret de-Vries of Wappinger Falls, brother John de-Vries of Long Island, wife Angelicque White of Corvallis, Oregon, sister Margie Scism of New Paltz and her children Zachariah, Jessica, Becky and Benjamin. Close friends mourn her loss as well.
A fitting remembrance of her life was held the evening of the 16th at her home — she was joyfully celebrated. In her professional life, Jen was an administrator at Dixon Recreation Center at Oregon State University, and formerly at University of Oregon and Elon University in North Carolina. She was a proud Peace Corps volunteer in Malawi, Africa, and a skilled whitewater raft instructor in times long gone. She was a 1987 graduate of John Jay high school where she first found her love of sport and play on the volleyball and basketball courts as well as the baseball diamond.
She loved life and lived well. Professionally and personally, she made those around her better; she inspired widely with her gentle and open nature. Scholarship endowments have been established in her honor— contribute if you are willing (contact firstname.lastname@example.org) — funds will support our future leaders. Otherwise, join us in paying tribute to the legacy of this beautiful woman — take time today and in any others that you are blessed with to be kind, listen — really listen — smile, play, be good to yourself, and love as honestly and openly as you can bear.
