JoAnn M.

MILLBROOK - On the wintry morning of Feb. 5, 2014, JoAnn M. Colomello died suddenly, but peacefully in her Millbrook home. She was just 64.

God has reunited JoAnn with her one and only love, her husband Ralph J. Colomello, who predeceased her in 1987. She is likely telling him stories about their grandson, Jake, and second grandchild due to arrive any day.

JoAnn is embraced in heaven by her mother, Dolores Signorelli Fargione and father, Joseph Fargione. She loved them both deeply.

Born in Poughkeepsie on June 2, 1949, JoAnn grew up the only girl - and oldest - of three children. In 1967, she graduated Millbrook High School, and remained lifelong dear friends with Gladys Lang of Millbrook.

On August 23, 1975, at St. Joseph's Church, Millbrook, JoAnn married Ralph, and they raised two adoring sons: Christopher and Ralph J. Colomello Jr. of Millbrook.

A woman with an enormous heart and filled with kindness, she was a beloved special education teacher, spending most of her career at Elm Drive Elementary School in the Millbrook Central School District. She attended Dutchess Community College and graduated from Good Counsel College.

After her retirement in 2007, JoAnn traveled to Italy twice, and often talked of the life-changing moment she saw her family's hometown of Itri.

A loyal defender of the gentleness of pit bulls, especially her Legend, and the family's supplier of lasagna and mint brownies, JoAnn touched so many lives and is greatly missed.

JoAnn is also survived by her daughter-in-law Sarah Colomello of Millbrook; brothers, Robert Fargione and his wife JoAnn of Millbrook and Michael Fargione and his wife Susan of Pleasant Valley; nieces, Suzanne Bernstein of New Canaan, Ct., Elizabeth Colomello of San Francisco, Ca., and Caitlyn Fargione of Charlotte, NC; nephews, C. Peter Colomello of Ulster County, Justin Fargione of Norwalk, Ct. and Craig Fargione of Castleton, NY; brother-in-law, Charles Colomello of Millbrook; and several great nieces, nephews and cousins.

Visitation will be Sunday, February 9 from 4-7 pm at Allen Funeral Home, 3270 Franklin Ave., Millbrook. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Monday, February 10 at 10 a.m. from St. Joseph's Church, North Ave., Millbrook. Interment will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Millbrook.

Memorial donations may be made in JoAnn's memory to St. Joseph's Church, where she was a longtime parishioner.
