Lawrence A. Leo

Poughkeepsie - Lawrence A. Leo, 96, a lifelong resident of Poughkeepsie passed away on Thursday, January 24, 2013 at Northern Dutchess Hospital in Rhinebeck.

He was born on January 5, 1917 in Poughkeepsie to the late Antonio and Cristinia Franco Leo.

Lawrence proudly served in the United States Army during WWII from 1941 to 1944. He met his wife Zella Blanton while training in Anniston, Alabama. They were married on October 5, 1941 in Alabama. Mrs. Leo survives at home.

He was a member of the Americana Tennis Club until he was 85 years old. He worked at IBM in Poughkeepsie until his retirement in 1975.

Lawrence is survived by his wife, Zella; children, Lawrence J. Leo and Linda Palfreyman; grandchildren Lauren Sheeley and Samuel Wainwright; great grandchildren, Cora and Violet Sheeley; sisters, Mary Wilkins, Dolores Garrison , Joanne Leo and brother Anthony Leo. He was predeceased by his sisters Rose De Stefano and Madeline Hines and brother John Leo.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, January 29, 2013 from 4 to 7 pm, at Parmele, Auchmoody & Schoonmaker Funeral Home, 110 Fulton Ave., Poughkeepsie, NY 12603.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, 10 am at the funeral home, burial will follow with Military Honors at St. Peter's Cemetery.
