Louise E. 'Betty' Canale
The Guest Book is expired.
Poughkeepsie - Louise Elizabeth Canale, everyone's beloved Betty, entered into eternal rest on Monday, August 13th. She died peacefully at home, following a rich and active life, fully celebrated until the end.
Betty was born in the Albany area on July 15, 1922. She was raised on a farm, where, at a young age, she developed her staunch work ethic and strength in the face of adversity. After World War II, Betty moved to Poughkeepsie and began a managerial position at the A&P, where she met her one true love, Angelo Canale. She continued to work at various local businesses and also prospered in her own enterprises. She and Angelo were the owners of Galleria Travel and Betty's Corner Deli. She was a successful entrepreneur and reliable worker her entire life, but her true vocation and greatest success was as the loving matriarch of an adoring family, and the truest friend to so many.
Betty was predeceased by her dear Angelo in 1983. She is survived by her son, Philip Canale and his wife, Shirley, of North Carolina, her son, Stephen Canale and his wife, Bernadette, of Poughkeepsie, her cherished granddaughter, Jessica Canale, of Hyde Park, her step grandchildren, Marlie and Jonas Wanseth, her step great-grandson, Ethan Wanseth, (who were equally blessed to share in her unconditional love), many nieces, nephews and countless treasured friends.
She will be missed by so many who remember her kindness and warmth, her entertaining stories, and infectious laughter, her perennially positive attitude and her full embrace of life.
Calling hours will be from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm, Friday, August 17th at Sweet 's Funeral Home, Inc., Rte. 9, Hyde Park.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Fr. John M. Lagiovane at 10 am, Saturday, August 18th at Regina Coeli Church, Rte. 9, Hyde Park.
Burial will follow in the family plot in St. Peter's Cemetery, Poughkeepsie.
