Poughkeepsie - Mary S. Ogden, 96, of Rhinebeck, died Sunday at Northern Dutchess Hospital surrounded by her loving family. Prior to 2003, Mary made her home in Poughkeepsie.

She was born to the late Allie and Pauline (Van Tine) Stewart on May 17, 1917, in New York City. At a young age, Mary and her parents moved to Rochester, NY where she graduated from West High School in 1935.

As a young woman, Mary moved to Poughkeepsie with her mother where she married the late Albert E. Ogden on October 17, 1947 and they lived and raised their family in Poughkeepsie. Prior to their marriage, Mary worked in the Comptroller's Department of Vassar College.

She lived a joyful life and was never happier than when she was entertaining friends and family or traveling. She loved the frequent trips she took throughout her lifetime and had a keen interest in the history and culture of other countries.

Mary had a strong altruistic spirit and was an active member of the Poughkeepsie community. Her numerous volunteer commitments included: member and past president of ASPCA Auxiliary, Children's Home of Poughkeepsie, Hudson Valley Philharmonic Auxiliary, Poughkeepsie Day Nursery board member, Vassar-Warner Home board member, Vassar Brothers Medical Center Auxiliary, and Vassar Brothers Medical Center volunteer and past chair of the Gift Shop. She was also a long standing member of the First Baptist Church of Poughkeepsie.

Additionally, Mary was involved in civic and social organizations. She was a member of the Mahwenawasigh Chapter of the DAR; Dutchess Golf Club, Order of the Eastern Star and Order of the Amaranth, two Masonic organizations.

Mary is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Nancy O. and Paul M. Amy of Rhinebeck; and her grandchildren, who were the light of her life: Paul M. Amy, Jr. of Latham, NY and Katharine F. Amy, of Astoria, NY.

Mary was pre-deceased by her daughter, Judith, in 1966 and her husband, Albert, in 1976.

Calling hours will be 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, July 19 at The Parmele, Auchmoody & Schoonmaker Funeral Home, 110 Fulton Ave., Poughkeepsie, NY 12603.
