Mildred F. Brown

Rhinebeck - Mildred Fyllingen "Mim" Brown, 65, of Rhinebeck, NY, passed away on Sunday, February 9th, 2014 at the Baptist Nursing Home in Rhinebeck.

Born on February 8th, 1949, in Brooklyn, NY, she was the daughter of the late Magnus and Vivian (Christophersen) Fyllingen and step-daughter of the late Marie Lund Fyllingen.

Mildred married David R. Brown on July 19, 1985 and he survives at home in Rhinebeck.

For many years, Mildred worked as the Director of Financial Aid for Ulster County Community College in Stone Ridge, NY. As an active member of the New York State Financial Aid Administrators Association and a Region 5 Hudson Valley Council Representative, she is well known for her many years of Financial Aid presentations in area schools throughout Ulster and Dutchess counties and for her work within the Equal Opportunity Program. Her dedication and high level of professionalism has led her to receiving the highly acclaimed Thomas Monihan Award from her peers and the SUNY Chancellors Award.

Mim enjoyed traveling, with a favorite destination being Norway, where she has had the pleasure of numerous family reunions. Mim was also selected and participated as a torch bearer for the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake.

In addition to her loving husband, she is survived by a son; Douglas R. Brown of Rhinebeck, a sister; Caryl Fyllingen of Lake Katrine, NY, a brother-in-law; Douglas Brown and his wife Janet Brown of Prudence Island, RI, a sister-in-law; Holly Ross and her husband Richard of Westfield, MA, along with numerous nieces and nephews. In Norway she is survived by one aunt and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. She was predeceased in Norway by nine aunts and uncles.

Funeral services will be private. Cremation will take place at Wiltwyck Crematory, Kingston, NY.

Memorial donations may be made in Mildred's memory to the Mid-Hudson Chapter, 2 Jefferson Plaza, Suite 103, Poughkeepsie, NY 12601-4027.
