Poughkeepsie - Nicholas J. Boonstra, 81, of Poughkeepsie, NY died Saturday, June 16, 2012 at Vassar Brothers Medical Center. Born on January 28, 1931 in Prospect Park, NJ, he was the son of the late Nicholas A. and Mary Pavlica Boonstra. Nicholas was a graduate of Beacon High School (1949) and served in the US Army during the Korean War from 1951-1954. He worked as a Lab Technician for Texaco in Glenham, NY for 31 years, retiring in 1986. Nicholas was a member of the American Cut Glass Association as a dealer and appraiser. He also was a statician for Beacon High School Football for 25 years, was a member and statician of the Hudson Valley Rookie Baseball League and helped establish the Beacon Braves, and was a member of the Dutchess County Baseball Hall of Fame and Dutchess County Sportsmen Hall of Fame. He was an avid Met fan and was an artist and photographer. Nicholas is survived by his companion of 30 years Donalee S. Doremus of home, his sister Maryann E. Boonstra of Fishkill, NY and several cousins. In addition to his mother and father, he was predeceased by his brother Edward J. Boonstra. Calling hours will be held on Thursday, June 21, 2012 from 5:00-7:00pm at the William G. Miller & Son Funeral Home, Inc., 371 Hooker Avenue, Poughkeepsie, NY 12603. A service will be held at 7:00pm, following visitation. A Graveside service with Military Honors will be on Friday, June 22, 2012 at 10:00am in the Veteran Section of Fishkill Rural Cemetery.
