Born May 1, 1959 in Brooklyn, he was the son of the late Denis and Doris Powers Barry.
He graduated from the State University of New York at Old Westbury in 1984 with a Bachelor's Degree in chemistry, and from the State University of New York at New Paltz with a Master's Degree in computer science in 1993.

Peter enjoyed being active and spending time outside, whether it be reading on the beach or playing whiffle ball in the yard; so long as the sun was out, so was he. A former CYO basketball coach, running and basketball were his favorite pastimes. He also liked to breakout in dance in the middle of the kitchen and make up lyrics to his favorite songs. His love of life and sense of dutiful purpose was evident in all he did. He was proud of his whole family, of where he came from and everywhere he'd been, of those he shaped, and of those who helped shape him. To express his person in words will always fall short, he is the best.
On December 3, 1987 at St. Mary's Church, Fishkill, he married Christine Minnick. Mrs. Barry survives at home.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his four children, Denis, Arianna, Kaitlyn, and Jack, all of Hyde Park; brother, Denis Barry of Central Valley, NY; brother, Bill Barry and wife, Eileen, of Floral Park; sister, Jeanne Driscoll of Westbury, NY; sister, Christine Furlano of Central Valley; sister, Peg Gallagher and husband, Bill, of Fishkill; father and mother-in-law, Virgil and Theresa Minnick of Poughkeepsie; brother-in-law, Virgil Minnick and wife, Kim, of Rutherford, NJ; sister-in-law, Linda Dauley and husband, Craig, of Hyde Park; and sister-in-law, Kathleen Reinhardt and husband, Chris, of Massachusetts.
