Ray D. Simmons

Millerton - - Ray D. Simmons - 83, a forty-three year resident of Millerton, NY, died Wednesday, April 24, 2013 at home. He was born in Dobbins, California, he was the son of the late Nellie Larner and Ray Simmons. On October 26, 1952 in College Point, NY, he married Mary Marano. Together Ray and Mary shared over 60 years of marriage. In addition to his wife Mary, he is survived by his children; Ray D. Simmons III, Maureen Chodan and her husband Jimmy, Robert Simmons, Ralph Simmons and his husband James Segrue, MaryEllen Simmons and her husband Stephen Looke, Roseann Roux and her husband Brian and Lou Simmons; many grandchildren, great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents he was predeceased by two brothers; Robert Simmons and Maurice Kidd, two sisters; Patricia Neilson and Eileen Simmons.

A retired NY state employee, Ray enjoyed traveling, gardening, farming, fishing, playing cards and spending winters in Florida. His compassion for animals was only surpassed by his devotion for his family. Most of all he was the father of a loving and caring family who will miss him terribly.

Ray served his country honorably in the United States Air Force during WWII and the Korean War. Ray was a life member of the V.F.W. Post 5444 of Dover Plains and the American Legion Post 178 of Millerton as well as a longtime parishioner of St. Patrick's Church in Millerton.

Calling hours will be held on Sunday, April 28, 2013 from 1pm to 5pm at the Scott D. Conklin Funeral Home, 37 Park Avenue, Millerton, NY 12546. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, April 29 at 11am at St. Patrick's Church, Church Street, Millerton, NY. Burial with military honors will take place at St. Patrick's Cemetery following the funeral mass. Memorial contributions may be made to the Millerton Fire Company and Rescue Squad, 24 Century Blvd., P.O. Box 733, Millerton, NY 12546.
