Beacon - Richard "Porky" Antalek, a lifelong resident of Beacon, passed away on Monday, September 30, 2013 at the Castle Point campus VA Hudson Valley Healthcare System after a prolonged struggle with cancer. He was 67.
Born in Beacon on July 31, 1946 Richard was the son of Joseph and Hazel Miller Antalek. Richard was a graduate of St. John's School, Beacon High and Delhi University. He was a Vietnam veteran, proudly serving in the U. S. Army. Porky worked for Mi-Ro Restaurant in Beacon. He was a life member of the Slater Chemical Fire House. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 666 in Beacon, Beacon Lodge #1493 B.P.O. Elks, St. Rocco's Society in Beacon and the Beacon Historical Society.
Richard is survived by his mother, Hazel Antalek of Beacon; his siblings, William Antalek of Fishkill and Janet Cunningham and her husband, Chuck of Tampa, FL; his uncle, Michael Antalek; his nieces and nephews, William Antalek, Jr., Stacey Rabe, Chuck Cunningham, Jr., Sarah Apmann and Beth Romano; five great nieces and nephews; several cousins and many good friends.
Richard was predeceased by his father, Joseph N. Antalek.
The family will receive their friends on Thursday, October 3, 2013 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Halvey Funeral Home, Inc., 24 Willow Street, Beacon.
Interment of Richard's ashes with military honors will be held on Monday, October 7 at 10 a.m. at St. Joachim Cemetery, 301 Washington Avenue, Beacon.
The family would like to thank Castle Point, the Palliative Care Team (Hospice) and the B2 staff of the Heroesharbor ward for the wonderful care and compassion given to Porky.
