Melbourne, FL - Robert E. Humeston, Sr., 83, a 24 year resident of Melbourne, FL formerly a longtime resident of Dover Plains, NY died on Sunday, March 24, 2013 at his home in Melbourne, FL. Bob was a carpenter and worked for Raymond J. Humeston Contracting in Dover Plains, NY.

Born on August 22, 1929 in Fishkill Plains, NY he was the son of the late Raymond J. and Maureen (Wyant) Humeston. On February 4, 1951 in Biloxi, MI he married Theo Virginia Tanner who predeceased him on October 16, 2006.

Mr. Humeston was a life member, former Vice President and Captain of the J.H. Ketcham Hose Company in Dover Plains, NY and also a life member and former Lieutenant of the J.H. Ketcham Rescue Squad. He was also a life member and former Master, Treasurer, Overseer, and Gate Keeper of the Stone Church Grange #1561 in Dover Plains, NY. Mr. Humeston proudly served in the United States Air Force during the Korean Conflict and also served as a civil defense marshall during the Vietnam War. He was an avid hunter and bowler while in New York and enjoyed fishing and swimming in Florida. He was also involved in the antique collectable business for many years.

He is survived by two sons, Robert E. "Tod" Humeston, Jr. and his wife, Natalie, of Dover Plains, NY and Vince R. Humeston and his wife, Betsy, of Dover Plains, NY; two daughters, Velda Ann Humeston of Melbourne, FL and Diane May Camberdella and her husband, Anthony, of Melbourne, FL; a brother, James Humeston of Winter Haven, FL and two sisters, Lorraine Lydon of Phoenix, AZ and Betty Beers of Hyde Park, NY. He is also survived by six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Besides his parents and wife, he was predeceased by his step-mother Elizabeth Smith Humeston, a brother, Carl F. Humeston, and a great-grandson, Gabriel Humeston.

Calling hours will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. on Friday, March 29, 2013 at the Hufcut Funeral Home, 3159 Route 22, Dover Plains, NY. The J.H. Ketcham Hose Company will conduct firematic services at 7 p.m. Funeral Services will take place at 10 a.m. on Saturday, March 30, 2013 at the funeral home with Rev. Jon Carter officiating.
