Robert J. Feitelson

POUGHQUAG - Robert J. Feitelson, 77, of Poughquag, NY, passed away on November 17, 2012 at Vassar Bros. Medical Center in Poughkeepsie. He was born in Yonkers, N.Y. on January 6, 1935, the son of Louis Feitelson & Miriam Kaplan Feitelson. After graduating from Yonkers High School, he attended the University of Vermont, and later graduated from N.Y.U. and N.Y.U. Law School. He went on to practice law and accountancy for over 50 years in Yonkers, Tarrytown and Poughquag.

On April 29, 1956 in Yonkers, NY, Bob married Doris Markowitz who survives at home. Bob and Doris lived in Hastings-on-Hudson for more than 30 years, where Bob involved himself in the community in many ways - he served as chairman of the local Democratic party, he was president of the local chapter of the Lion's Club, and he served as president of the New Jersey Youth Hockey League. Bob was most proud of his role as a founding member and president of Temple Beth Shalom in Hastings, where he was instrumental in the creation and construction of the temple. After moving up the river to Poughquag, he became a member of Vassar Temple and served on its Board of Directors.

Bob and Doris spent innumerable nights at Lincoln Center, Carnegie Hall, the Metropolitan Opera House and later at the Bardavon enjoying their shared love of classical music. They traveled the world - throughout Europe, Russia, China, Australia, across the Far East, South America, Alaska, Hawaii, down the Amazon and on and on - but Bob was happiest in his home office, behind his desk, rooting on the Yankees and the New York Rangers on television, surrounded by his wife, children, grandchildren and daughters-in-law, all of whom he loved deeply. Survivors include his sister, Linda Feitelson Mamet of the island of Mauritius, his sons and their wives: Todd Feitelson & Katherine Havard of Millbrook, NY and Glenn & Mo Feitelson of Middletown, Connecticut, along with his grandchildren, Allie, Jonah, Max, Emma and Zev. Services will be held Tuesday, November 20, 2012 at 11 AM in Vassar Temple, 140 Hooker Avenue, Poughkeepsie, NY 12601. Rabbi Paul Golomb will officiate. Burial will follow in family plot in Vassar Temple Cemetery in Poughkeepsie. Shiva will be held through Wednesday. Arrangements have been entrusted to Wm. G. Miller & Son F.H., Inc., 371 Hooker Avenue, Poughkeepsie, NY 12603. If you wish to send an online condolence please visit our website at www.wmgmillerfuneralhome.com
