Robert R. Tompkins

Wappingers Falls - Robert R. Tompkins, 63, of Wappingers Falls, NY died Friday, March 8, 2013 at home. Born on May 5, 1949 in Mahopac, NY he was the son of the late George Carlton Tompkins and the late Margaret Elizabeth Beach. He had been a local resident for over 40 years. Robert was a graduate of Ketcham High School in 1968 and served in the United States Marine Corp. during the Vietnam War. He worked for the NYS Department of Corrections as a corrections officer and he retired on June 1, 2002. Robert was a big sports fan and was a collector of sports memorabilia; he loved the Jets and fishing. He was also a great caretaker, taking care of his brother George for many years. Robert is survived by his brother George A. Tompkins of Wappingers, his sister and brother-in-law Shirley and John Paul of Altamont, FL, sister and brother-in-law Dolores and Roger Thomas of Shelton, CT, sister and brother-in-law Karen and Sunny Corbin of Wappingers Falls, sister and brother-in-law Sharon and Richard Badgley of Greenwich, NY and his brother Gary Tompkins of Rosendale, NY, as well as many nieces and nephews. Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, March 13, 2013 from 10 - 12:00noon at the Timothy P. Doyle Funeral Home, Inc., 371 Hooker Ave., Poughkeepsie, NY 12603. A service will be held following visitation in the funeral home at 12:00noon. Burial will follow in the Milltown Cemetery in Patterson, NY.
