Walter J. Doland

STAATSBURG - Walter J. Doland, 85, passed away on June 15,2013 at his home in Staatsburg. He was born in Millbrook to Authur S. & Mildred (Shaffer) Doland on April 11,1928. He married Helen (Kading) on May 3, 1980. Besides his wife of 33 years Walter is survived by three step sons; Bob, Tom and Jay Russell; his eight grandchildren , and two great grandchildren. Walter is also survived by three brothers and one sister as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Walter was a veteran having served his country during WW ll as a Navy Sea Bee. Walt also enjoyed giving his time and talent to his community having been a First Aid instructor for the American Red Cross and proud member of Roosevelt Station #2 Volunteer Fire Dept and Rescue squad. Walter was also a 30 year member and officer of the Pleasant Valley Grange, and a member of the Shekomeko Masonic Lodge F.&A.M in Pleasant Valley. Most recently Mr. Doland donated the funds necessary to erect a Flag Pole at the lodge in memory of Veterans who gave their service to this country. Walt also belonged to the Dutchess County Shriners Club and a past member of their Hillbilly Band.

Walter worked for IBM in Poughkeepsie for 37 years , and during that time held many positions including quality control officer. Walt enjoyed collecting mostly Firemen memorabilia and Hess trucks.

Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, June 19th at Allen Funeral Home, 3270 Franklin Ave., Millbrook from 4 to 8 pm, with Masonic services being held at 7:30 pm. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, June 20th at 2 pm at Lyall Memorial Federated Church, Millbrook. Interment with military honors will be in on Friday, June 21st at 11 am in Union Cemetery, Hyde Park.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be sent to , or Shriners Hospital for Children, Springfield, MA, and Dutchess County Hospice.
