Hopewell Junction - William Berger of Hopewell Junction passed away suddenly on June 25, 2013 at Vassar Brothers Medical Center. He was 75. Born on August 3, 1937 in Peekskill, NY to the late William and Elsie Staut Berger.
William was the first generation German descendent in his family born in the United States. He attended Hendrick Hudson High School and proudly served his country in the United States Army. After his honorable discharge from the Army he went to work for AT&T for many years prior to his retirement. He was the co-owner of Dogwood Knolls Golf Course in Hopewell Junction with his partner, James Biordi.
He was an avid golfer, loved to hang out in his bar, and was proud to say that he came from a poor family of immigrants and he worked very hard his entire life to make something for himself. He will be missed for his quirky ways and was a unique person, to which people either loved him or hated him. Those that loved him will never be able to forget him.
He is loved by his niece, Karin Brunetto and her partner, Michael Clancy, his nephew, David Albonetti and his great nieces, Lauren and Brittany Brunetto. He was predeceased by his sister, Elsie Berger.
